An ex-Fon de Portago Ferrari Grand Prix single-seater is the latest car added to the already impressive catalogue for RM Sotheby’s Monaco sale on 10-11 May. Rumour has it last-minute bombshell announcements for the sale might include a Porsche 917.
The sale, taking place during the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, already has 1979 F1 champ Jody Scheckter’s collection consigned, but the €2.5-3m 1954 Ferrari 625 is quite a coup. The first Ferrari to be campaigned by Belgian national team Ecurie Francorchamps and the only Ferrari monoposto raced by de Portago it was in the Bardinon Mas du Clos Collection for over 15 years before spending the past 20 with one owner.
Also now lined up for the sale are a 1991 Jaguar XJR-15 that was campaigned by Works TWR driver Derek Warwick in the 1991 JaguarSport Intercontinental Challenge (€1.4-1.6m) and the sole 2020 McLaren Senna GTR ‘LM 25’ by Lanzante (€1.4-1.6m).
Björn Waldegård’s 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC 5.0 ‘Rallyewagen’ is also going under the hammer. The Mercedes-Benz Works rally car is one of seven built and helped propel the Swede to the 1979 driver’s title. With more podiums than any other 450 SLC 5.0 it is estimated at €800,000-1,000,000.
Other competition cars include a winning ex-Stuck 1991 Audi V8 quattro DTM (€750,000-1,000,000), a Roock Racing 1998 Porsche 911 GT2 (€750,000-1,000,000) and a 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT2 (€750,000-950,000).
There are also a 1976 Porsche 934 (€750,000-900,000), a 1999 Prost AP02 (€700,000-1,000,000), a 1985 Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 (€500,000-700,000), 2011 Citroën DS3 WRC (€450,000-700,000) and 2019 Aston Martin Vantage DTM (€470,000-650,000).
