A magnificent 1937 Delahaye Type 135 has been crowned Best of Show at 2024’s The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering – one of the largest events during the Monterey Car Week. This car was a particular highlight of the 17 concours classes, which is owned by Sam and Emily Mann.
Despite the Delahaye’s rather special sports car bodywork today, it was originally built as an open-wheeled racing car – featuring a 240bhp, 12-cylinder engine. Delahaye Club historian Andre Vaucourt believes that it was the car driven by Renee Dreyfus in the Prix du Million, 1938 Pau Grand Prix and Cork Grand Prix. It was later sold to Marius Franay, who chose to fit the stunning coachwork to the race-ready chassis.

Other highlights from The Quail
As well as the concours, The Quail was home to a total of 21 new vehicle launches, from the mainstream manufacturers, as well as companies offering restomods and exclusive hypercars. The Huracan-replacing Lamborghini Temerario was the big news, as well as the Maserati GT2 Stradale, Rimac Nevera R and Cadillac Opulent Velocity Concept.
Other notable unveils included the Acura Performance EV Concept and Integra Type S HRC Prototype, Hennessey F5 Stealth Series, Rolls Royce Phantom Scintilla, Automobili Pininfarina B95 Gotham and Battista Targamerica, Pagani Utopia Roadster, Porsche Sonderwunsch 993 Speedster, RUF Rodeo, GuntherWerks GWR, Touring Superleggera Veloce12, Karma Automotive Ivara, Meyers Manx 3-Cylinder Radial Engine and the KALMAR Automotive 9×9.
