Top-seller in Bonhams|Cars’ first Europe Online sale was a 2010 Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Roadster, which made €244,160. The 6.5-litre V12 supercar car is equipped with SV-inspired Liberty Walk package and has covered only 7,200km.
It just pipped a 1967 Iso Grifo GL Series I Custom, which recouped €229,600. This uprated example is one of only 330 Series 1 Grifos and is believed to have been exhibited at the 1968 Barcelona Motor Show.
In third place was a ‘tastefully modified’ €210,000 1970 DeTomaso Mangusta.
The trio helped push the total to €2,424,240 for the 49 lots and, predictably seeing as it was a no-reserve auction, a 100% sale rate.
Also taking Octane’s interest was a De Tomaso Vallelunga, not quite the first mid-engined production road car (that was the Matra Djet), but it comfortably beat the Miura into production. Packing a more manageable Ford Kent in-line four rather than its sibling Mangusta’s fearsome Ford 289ci V8, the Vallelunga was unveiled at the Turin show in 1963 and fewer than 60 were produced from 1964-67. This modified example sold for €168,560, a huge price for a glassfibre car powered by a Cortina engine!
The seven day hybrid on-line auction ran from 11-18 June had the lots available for viewing in West Flanders, Belgium, and attracted bidders from 12 different countries.
