One-off Lamborghini LM002 ‘wagon’ offered on SBX Cars

It isn’t every day that you see a Lamborghini LM002 come to market, but this coachbuilt ‘Wagon’ that has been consigned to SBX Cars – the new auction platform from Supercar Blondie – is particularly special. It’s a one-off car ordered by the Sultan of Brunei, which was converted to this ‘Wagon’ form by Salvatore Diomante in 1989.

Although three estate versions of the LM002 are know to exist, this is the only one that was officially sanctioned by the factory. It’s official name is the LM002 Carrozzeria Diomante, and it features the 5.2-litre 450bhp V12 engine shared with the Countach. The conversion consisted of raising and extending the roof, with a U-shaped seating arrangement in the back to allow for around five rear passengers. The standard car was no lightweight, but the conversion added around 500kg, making the total weight close to 3 tons.

One-off ‘Wagon’ version created for the Sultan of Brunei, showing a mere 10,383 km.

The auction description states that it’s ‘claimed’ that the Sultan of Brunei drove it for just 1100 miles before it was shipped to Germany, ending up in the hands of Bernd Pischetsrieder, former BMW and Volkswagen CEO. More recently it ended up in Sweden, where it was used more frequently, including regular trips on the school run. Originally painted in black, it has been changed to the current Argento Metallizzato at some point.

Major work that has been undertaken in the car’s history include a clutch and flywheel service, as well as fresh oil pipes, by Auto-Konig GmbH in Germany during 2006. A new gearbox was also fitted in the same year. It comes to auction having been freshly serviced, including a carburettor set-up. It’s currently wearing its original tyres, however it will come with a fresh set of the LM002-specific Pirelli tyres for the new owner to fit.
