RM Sotheby’s achieves $74.4m at ModaMiami auction

RM Sotheby’s ModaMiami auction achieved $74,491,720 in total sales with an 83% sell-through rate, held at the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables on 27-28 February. The event, part of the opening for the luxury-focused ModaMiami, featured over 80 cars, including the last of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum Collection, which alone brought in $34.4 million on Thursday night.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum Collection was a highlight of the auction, contributing to a significant portion of the evening’s success. Proceeds from these sales will support the museum’s mission to preserve its rich history of the Indianapolis 500 and Indianapolis Motor Speedway artifacts. Leading these sales was a 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II, which sold for $13,205,000, setting a new world record. The car, a Holman-Moody entry at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, surpassed its pre-sale estimate by $2.2 million.

Other notable results included the 1908 Mercedes 17.3-Litre 150 HP Rennwagen at $8,255,000 and the 1957 Chevrolet Corvette SS XP-64, which fetched $7,705,000. The 1965 Spirit of America Sonic I also exceeded expectations, selling for $1,325,000.

Aside from the museum cars, RM achieved a world record auction price with the sale of a 1996 Ferrari F50, finishing at $5,532,500, although this was just over the lower end of its $5.5-6.5m pre-sale estimate. This was followed by an F40 at $3,580,000.
