India’s 21 Gun Salute Concours d’Elegance concluded its 11th edition with a 1922 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Open-Tourer Hunting Car by Windover taking Best in Show honours. Exhibited by Mr Dhanraj Gidwaney, the Silver Ghost’s victory was celebrated in fitting style, with a ceremonial march led by an infantry regiment’s band and a quartet of ceremonial horses – an example of the pageantry that sets this concours apart on the global stage.

Held at the Ambience Golf Greens in Gurugram, the 21 Gun Salute showcased a total of 95 cars in 11 classes, including 120 Years of Rolls-Royce and Post-War American Convertibles.

A 1955 Chrysler Imperial Limousine owned by Mr Viveck and Mrs Zita Goenka secured second place, while third place went to Mr Gautam Singhania’s 1930 Cord L-29 Cabriolet. The event commenced at India Gate, with cars setting off at dawn for a tour flagged off by the Minister of Tourism. The convoy did challenge some of the cars due to Delhi’s traffic and heat, with a few mechanical issues along the way.

The event continued to offer an international platform for India’s passionate classic car community, which encompasses opulent vehicles of the maharajas to the iconic humble Hindustan Ambassador. The 21 Gun Salute, alongside the Oberoi Concours, plays a vital role in showcasing India’s automotive heritage to the world.

The event’s character was enhanced by stories of perseverance and passion. One standout example was the MG TC in the 100 Years of MG class, driven 2500km from Bangalore to Delhi by Tr Reghenadan and his son Ishaan. After a broken half-shaft threatened their participation, the MG community in Delhi rallied to repair the car overnight, ensuring it made it to the showfield.

Founder Madan Mohan’s efforts to elevate the event’s status are evident in the quality of entries, the calibre of the international jury, and the engagement of collectors, restorers, and automotive enthusiasts. The 21 Gun Salute Concours continues to build momentum as a fixture in the global classic car calendar, promoting a deeper appreciation for India’s rich automotive history.
